When there were a number of cases where native people is taking advantage of the privileges that are bestowed to them, the community where they belong started to find ways so that they could prevent casualties among themselves. For instance, the Cinta Larga Indians of the Roosevelt Indian Reservation has killed around 29 miners and has also massacred village with only a child as a survivor. These happen day in and day out without these Indians being punished because under Brazilian laws, these Indians are immune from prosecution and from punishments because this is guaranteed by the constitution.
After these massacre incidences, there became a state inquiry which reported that there have been a number of abuses among the Indian Protection Service crew. At the same time, when Norma Lewis was dispatched to Brazil to investigate what has been happening, she took note that the Indians are themselves threatened beings so that the those people who yearn to protect tribal peoples have maintained that the only way to retain their cultural identities would be to create a sanctuary for them to “live their won lives… n their own land (Sandall)”. The paper is detailed enough to account for the history of the native peoples, their lives, and their cultures. However, it could also be said that these accounts were a little bit bias. This is because the authorities that were referenced in these articles were native peoples advocates from top universities like Oxford and Cambridge. They really explored these areas for them to learn the culture and the lives of the Indians.
This means that they are really into protecting their welfare. Even when this does not cover every side of the story, it is helpful in the preservation of the Indian culture for the rest of the world to know about the intricacies of their lives and their cultures. However, the method that they have employed is too restricting to the natives. They should not be constrained just for the purpose of being a spectacle. For their benefit, they should be left out there to discover and learn new things.
