The Three Pieces of My Worldview Puzzle Essay

I have always known throughout my whole life that I am a Christian, but I never actually new just how important it is to have and know my Worldview. I have also known that there were more Worldviews than the Christian Worldview, but I never knew how different their beliefs were. I grew up in a Baptist church and about 2 years ago I began exploring the Jehovah’s Witness, or JW religion; however, I am still part of the Christian Worldview because I believe in God as my creator.

Even though I knew that God was my creator, I never believed everything that I learned from the Baptists version of the Holy Bible. When I started reading the New World Translation I knew that this was what I believed and I began living my life according to the ethics and morals from this version of the Bible. The three components that make up my Worldview are ultimate reality, human nature, and ethics because they shaped my thoughts, experiences, education, and life decisions.

Let me begin with the most important piece of my Worldview puzzle, which is my ultimate reality. I am a Christian because I believe that God (Jehovah) is the creator of mankind and the entire Universe, and that Jesus (Christ) is his only son. Many other religions within the Christian Worldview argue that Jehovah’s Witnesses are not Christians; they are actually more like a cult. This description in my opinion is nothing more than a judgment made by opposing religions due to contradictory beliefs.

In my religion, which is the JW, we believe that God is only one person and that the Holy Trinity reveals him as three persons, or a three headed freak person (Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, copyright 2011). Another conflicting belief among various religions inside the Christian Worldview is in regards to the death and resurrection of mankind; however, their beliefs regarding this aspect are much closer ultimately than those of opposing Worldviews.

Beliefs related to death in the New Age Worldview is that Physical death is not the end of the self, but since God does not exist in this Worldview the spirit does not go to God in heaven, nor does it live eternally in a paradise on Earth (Mark P. Cosgrove, copyright 2006) Even though different religions inside the Christian Worldview have different beliefs, their ultimate reality is that God is the creator of all things.

Moving on to the next piece of my Worldview puzzle, I will now talk about human nature. Human nature from the viewpoint of all religions in the Christian Worldview is that the sinful nature of all humans derived from the first man and woman created by God. Adam and Eve were created in the image of God and were supposed to live forever until they disobeyed God’s one and only command not to eat the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge (New World Bible Translation Committee, revised 1984).

According to other Worldviews such as the Naturalistic Worldview, they believe that human beings are nothing more than biological machines with no minds or souls, only brains. Naturalists believe that sin is an old-fashioned concept and that it is just something wrong in the natural realm of the person, not the fallen nature passed down from our ancestors Adam and Eve (Mark P. Cosgrove, copyright 2006). My personal religion inside the Christian Worldview believes that when human beings die due to the sinful nature of our ancestors, we will cease to exist.

Once God rids the Earth of all sin, making it a paradise he will resurrect those who were virtuous in life and those judged unrighteous will cease to exist forever; in addition, he will take 144,000 people to rule alongside him in Heaven (New World Bible Translation Committee, revised 1984). Finally, I will discuss the last critical piece of my Worldview puzzle; ethics. In the Christian Worldview we base our moral code on the Bible; whereas many other Worldviews believe that humans decide what is right from wrong based on how they feel. One Worldview that bases their ethics on the feelings of each individual is Secular Humanism.

This Worldview believes that each human knows themselves better than anyone else, so each person decides their own ethics based on what feels write for them. They feel that since desires such as homosexuality has survived for the past 5,000 years or so it must be OK and moral for all humans (Mark P. Cosgrove, copyright 2006). Jehovah’s Witnesses live by ethics according to God and the Bible just as any other religions in the Christian Worldview; moreover, we believe that doing God’s will is part of the ethical standards God has set for us (Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, copyright 2011).

I have learned throughout my course in Christian Worldview 101 that even though I use the Bible as a guide for morality, other Worldviews do not believe in God or that the Bible is a true revelation. Since they do not believe that the Bible is true they do not use it as a guide, instead they guide themselves through life according to their own feelings on ethics. In summary, my worldview is made up of my ultimate reality, which is the existence of my God almighty. Since my ultimate reality is that God does exist, my human nature revolves around him.

In my Worldview, humans were created in the image of God and our sinful nature derives from the sin committed by our ancestors, the first man and woman created in God’s image. The last aspect of what makes up my personal worldview is ethics, which consists of what is right and what is wrong and the guide I use to understand this is the New World Translation of the Holy Bible. My purpose in my worldview and as a Christian is to continue to believe in God as my father and creator, as well as to continue to do what is right according to his will.

Though I have learned a great deal about other Worldviews and their beliefs, my personal views and beliefs have remained the same. Since my religion inside of the Christian Worldview is Jehovah’s Witness, I will continue to do the works of God. Using the New World Translation as my guide to do the right things according to God, hopefully I will be resurrected when God forms a paradise on Earth for all humans who were virtuous in life.
