There are several conflicts, crises and wars going on in Syria with deep- rooted causes having serious implications for regional stability and global security (Raja, AAA). Arab countries faced and are facing a tide of revolution shifting from one part of the region to another largely known by the name of Arab Spring. During March 2011, uprising started in Syria against the regime of President Basher al-Sad forcing the government to use deadliest arsenal available. Armed rebellion started and mushroomed across the country into a full-scale civil war (Manfred, 2014).
Vying to gain as other Arab neighbors, conditioning to duple the Basher al-Sad Batch party government reasoning political repression, discredited ideology, uneven economy, drought, population growth and corruption various interested national, regional and international actors led to the shape and size the conflict is in (Manfred, 2014). In today’s interconnected world of global economy and information, any incident of small or big nature occurring in any part of the world will affect the part you are living in.
Understanding the ongoing conflict in Middle East, more pacifically of Syrian Arab Republic is very important to be acquainted with geopolitical and economical problem for a student of military science. The incidents occurring for last three years resulting in death of more than 1. 6 million, uprooted some 6. 5 million people from their homes, forced 2. 7 million to flee the country, laid waste to cities and 2 towns alike, and unleashed sectarian hatreds that have rippled across the region (Sure, 2014).
All of these suggest the intensity and necessity of knowing the reasons behind this havoc which will augment in the understanding the inflict and its possible resolution. When got the opportunity to research about the ongoing situation of Syrian Arab Republic, initially I looked at the situation as projected by the media. Dwelling upon the topic to a bit detail, it uncovered the true picture behind the conflict, which I thought if presented to the readers, scholars and interest groups would be helpful.
Background Middle East is embroiled in almost half a century bloodiest violence due to its ego strategic location, abundant resources, and regional/global power politics. In this broader perspective, Syrians social composition, economic underdevelopment, and political governance are some of the triggers of present Syrian crises. The onslaught of Arab Spring, Iranian ambitions for nuclear parity with Israel and resource scramble in the backdrop of rapidly shifting regional alignments.
Consequently there are several conflicts, crises and wars going on in Syria with deep rooted causes having serious implications for regional stability and global security (Raja, AAA). Within Syria, the factions fighting for control of the country have committed themselves to a course of violence as a method of resolving their political differences. Serious civil war is ongoing in Syria, and the issues of civilian deaths and displacements, escalating violence, and the unresolved conflict situation cannot be solved simply by addressing any one individual aspect of the conflict (Bound, 2013).
This research paper has primarily focused on to present Syrian crises, its various dimensions, and respective interests of the stakeholders involved, possible future scenarios, and SYRIAN INTERNAL A CRITICAL ANALYSIS 3 their likely repercussions not only for the region but for global politics as well. Last piece will be a suggested blueprint for the resolution of this issue Statement of the Problem Over the years, more than 1 00,000 Syrians have lost their lives in the escalating conflict between forces loyal to President Basher al-Sad and those opposed to his rule.
The bloody internal conflict has destroyed whole neighborhoods and forced more than nine million people from their homes (Gritted, Rodgers, & Maguire, 2014). Resolution must begin with understanding of the parties in conflict through contemporary theoretical analysis, thereby gaining insight of a pathway forward toward a lasting peace. A comprehensive and legitimate research methodology must employ to answer the questions, which would be beneficial for a practical application of third party mediation as the potential vehicle to successful conflict resolution.
Resolution of this conflict requires a logical approach with a realistic assessment of the potential avenues from which resolution is achievable, before peace is realized. For a civil war of this proportion, we must look beyond any single issue and look to understand the conflict from the position of all sides, while accepting that the final resolution will not come from one source or actor within the conflict, but potentially from an external intervention. True resolution not only will involve the direct actors in this conflict but also all those forces with an interest in the region (Bound, 2013).
Therefore, to give direction and shaping the research to the fruitful findings and conclusions enumerated questions considered were: 1. What sparked the heinous conflict? 2. Who all are making Syria a battleground? 3. What are the interest of various parties of the conflict? 4 4. What are the repercussions of the conflict? 5. Who all are participating in the conflict? 6. What could be the best possible end of this conflict? Objectives of the Study In general, this research paper has focused on critically analyzing the root cause and prolonging factor of Syrian Internal War. More specifically, the research work will be focusing on: 1.
To study the origin and causes of the conflict. 2. To study AH-Sad in person and his regime. 3. To study about various interest groups and opposition groups. 4. TO study about the repercussions of the conflict. 5. To study the ways to resolve a peaceful sustainable peace. Justification of the Study There are very few researches on Syrian Conflict, albeit only focusing on conflict dimension. There is the need to understand the prolonging dimension of the conflict as well as ways to resolve the ongoing conflict. Similarly, we can learn about the conflict as a relevance in our context.
Other than this, we can also learn about the various interest groups, cause and effects of the conflict. Therefore, this research paper can help students, readers and researchers to know about the never ending Syrian Internal Conflict. Limitations of the Study The most Obvious limitation Of the study is its reliance on secondary data sources. Geographical boundaries though bridged by internet sources, overwhelms, are secondary sources. Due to primary data producers interests and their own limitations on their interest segments of the 5 conflict possibility of getting relevant data for this research was less.
Some sites especially of BBC, Middle East Peace Council and individual floggers were sources for this research data. While researching the ever-changing ground situations are other limitations of this study for collating, interpreting and analyzing. This limitation particularly prevented from drawing findings and further concluding. What were dormant groups at the begin inning of this search came prominent at later stage shaping the situations also altered findings to some extent. Chapter Organization For easy assimilation and better understanding of the subject matter, this paper will be organized as under: Chapter 1.
Introduction. 2. Chapter 2. Literature Review. 3. Chapter 3. Methodology. 4. Chapter 4. Rest Its. 5. Chapter 5. Analysis. 6. Chapter 6. Discussions. 7. Chapter 7. Conclusions and Recommendations. 6 CHAPTER 2 Literature Review Syrian conflict has become a protracted internal conflict. Ever since the conflict started in March 201 1 until date there have been few books matching he subject of this research. However, some literatures were most useful during the process of this research. Revolt in Syria: Eyewitness to the Uprising “Revolt in Syria: Eye-witness to the Uprising” was written by Stephen Starr in 2012 and published by C.
Hurst & Co. (Publishers) Ltd. , in United Kingdom focusing on the initial revolt against the government. Moreover, he is very successful in emphasizing on the conflict from a foreign journalist respective who had to leave due to conflict.
