The Israel and Palestine Territory area has been in dispute since the early 20th century. Currently, Israel is the only Jewish state in the world, and Palestinians are the Arab the people that come from the land that is now under the control of Israel. Palestinians still refer to that area as Palestine and want to establish a sovereign state on either a portion or all of the land. To make matters more difficult, both groups claim to have ties to the land that dates back a few thousand years ago. Back in the 20th century, Jewish people fled from Europe to find land that could serve as their haven. They established themselves in a territory that was under the then Ottoman empire and was occupied by mostly Arabs. Naturally, the Arab people were against this as they saw the land as theirs. The United Nations attempted to aid the two groups in coming to an agreement, but this did not work. As a result, nearby Arab nations and Israel went to war twice, once in 1948 and another time in 1967. These wars are the cause of the current boundaries that we see today. The war in 1967 left the West Bank and Gaza under the control of Israel despite the large number of Palestinians that reside in these areas. This ongoing conflict has caused a lot of problems in the region. Israel has gone to war on multiple occasions with the surrounding countries who side with Palestine. This has lead to rocky relationships between states. As of right now, Israel only has a peace treaty with Egypt and Jordan while their relationship with Syria and Lebanon are quite unstable. On the other hand, many of the worlds non-Muslim countries acknowledge Israel and consider it to be its own state. However, when compared to other countries, Israel is fourth most disliked country behind Iran, Pakistan, and North Korea. People around the world find that their actions and military occupation of West Bank are unjust. There have been many attempts to mend Palestine and Israel’s relationship and establish a peace treaty. In fact, America has been one of the leading forces behind it. They are hoping that the two groups will come to an agreement where the Palestinians would be able to establish their land in West Bank and Gaza in exchange for a ceasefire on Israeli forces. This has been the ultimate goal since 1993, but there has been little to no success/progress in forming a peace treaty. With how things are going now, the Israel-Palestine conflict is likely to end in what is called a “two-state solution” or “one state solution”. Either Israel and Palestine would both end up being two sovereign states or one of the groups would take all of the land (Israel, Gaza, and West Bank).
