Man’s built environment has always indicated the degree of
progressiveness his society. Built environments not only inspire us but also
reflect our values as a well-structured society of social & intelligent

Being born in a nuclear family of 4, I was brought up in a
small town in North India while both my parents are reputed government
employees. I, being the elder one of the two siblings, always had a keen
inclination towards buildings and construction processes involved. This love
for buildings & built environment helped me in choosing a career which
would allow me to pursue my interest. Therefore, after having completed my
senior secondary education in 2005 & senior secondary education in 2007, I
went on to pursue my graduate studies as an Architect from School of Planning
& Architecture (New Delhi) from 2008 to 2013. Immediately after graduating,
I became a member of Council of Architecture, India (highest regulatory body
for Architects practising in India). Post my graduation; in Nov. 2015 I got
married to the love of my life.

Para 2: why this Course

Having graduated as an Architect from School of Planning and
Architecture (SPA), New Delhi in 2013 as a first class student, I immediately
got involved with the construction industry while working for the reputed
Raheja Developers Ltd. (RDL) In Delhi NCR region. I was primarily involved with
2 group housing projects in NCR Region- Raheja Oma (40 floor high premium
residential tower) & Raheja Krishna (Affordable Housing under Haryana
Govt.’s Scheme) apart from the concept development of a couple of other
projects. Both these projects are using modern construction methods like
pre-cast/hollow core slabs and PERI formwork. During my 4 years tenure at RDL,
because of my constant involvement in the design development, detailing and
execution of these projects as an Architect, I also witnessed the rapid
modernization of the entire Indian construction industry. Ambitious projects
like “Smart City Project”; “Affordable Housing Policy”& “Housing
for all” also got highlighted under
the newly elected central government during the same time frame. This move by
the govt. not only acted as a huge booster for the construction industry but
also increased the demand for qualified professionals required to execute such
projects. To be a part of this movement, I realized that I needed to acquire
specialized skillsets about project management as well as about various aspects
of construction to be able to handle projects of such magnitude. Being an
Architect, I was not well versed with these skills. Therefore, I decided to
apply for Post Graduate Studies in Construction Management. After 4 years of
professional experience, I came back to academics by taking up the position of
an Assistant Professor at Ansal University, Gurugram (Haryana, India) so that I
would be able to pursue my post grad studies with much ease.

Master of Construction Management (Professional) does not
only equip me with new skills but also sharpens my managerial capabilities to
handle such projects while broadening my career aspects as a specialized
professional. The course is structured in such a way that one does not only
looks onto the current construction industry aspects & practices but is
also covers future sustainable practices. There is a high demand of qualified
construction managers in India now and I hope to be able to join the young work
force after completing my course and contribute in its development.

Para 3: Why Australia

There are several reasons why Australia was my first choice
for further studies. The primary reason is that quality of education being
imparted in Australia is monitored strictly by govt. Agencies which makes it
different from that of many other countries. Monitoring bodies like Australian
Qualifications Framework (AQF) & Tertiary Education Quality & Standards
Agency (TEQSA) which ensure that each qualification is inter-related to the
various levels of education prescribed. Such high level of monitoring ensures
that quality education is imparted to every student who studies in Australia
and therefore education qualifications of Australia are recognized throughout
the globe. Secondly, highly developed educational infrastructures & facilities
promote practical based learning which is accompanied by very professional
teaching facilities. Moreover, unlike India, students are not only judged by
exams but their learning is assessed through seminars and other assignments
also. All these modes of learning are promoted by the innovative Australian
education policy. This belief is bolstered by the fact that Australia is home
to more than 15 universities among the top 400 universities in the world
ranking by times higher education survey.

I personally believe that Australia, apart from imparting
quality education is also a country with a rich cultural and historical
background & would be the perfect destination for international students to
promote cultural cohesion and exchange cultural diversity with people belonging
to various parts of the world. Australian culture is considered to be diverse
and vibrant along with being very calm, peaceful and orderly in nature. I also
wanted to be in close proximity to Melbourne, because a very close friend of
mine lives there and moreover Melbourne is a first world city exhibiting
modernity, technological advancement and cultural preservation. Above that,
four out of ten most liveable cities in the world are in Australia. Good
connectivity of the suburbs with main city area also makes it easier to explore
the country.

Para 4: Why Deakin University

I have decided to pursue my Master of Construction Management
(Professional Study) at Deakin University. As I have got information from
various sources that this is one of the best education providers in Australia,
providing quality education to both domestic and international students.
According to Times Higher Education, Deakin is among the top 2% universities of
the world & in top 50 universities under 50 years of age. A truly world
class university with industry focussed degree programs. Their core belief is
to excel technologically & impart education to students by gaining
practical experience also. That is why students from Deakin are better equipped
as a professional after post-graduation. By training under the guidance of
highly skilled faculty members, I will not only be able to achieve my goals but
will also be able to contribute so much to the development of my country and to
the upcoming generation of professionals. Deakin University has also been
ranked #1 in the state of Victoria, for student satisfaction, for 6 consecutive
years (2010-2015). Tuition fees and living expenses are also in my favour for
the duration of my course.

Moreover, being close to Melbourne city, my entire stay of 2
years at Deakin University will be an experience of its own because of the
culturally diverse population and modern infrastructure of a first world
country which will expose me to certain practices and traditions which can be
further utilized to nurture new ideas and innovations to be implemented in my
own native country.

Para 5: Why not India

As a graduate professional with industry experience, my focus
is to aim for an environment which enables me to add value education to my
portfolio. With only a handful of IITs & other colleges in India providing
Masters Degree in Construction Management, it was easy for me to choose
Australia for global exposure on the technical as well as the managerial aspect
of this degree. Aware of the rigours of post graduate studies, I know that the
kind of exposure that I will get while studying in Australia which will
definitely help me to develop into a better professional. Education in
Australia will not only help me get a global outreach after my education but
will also help in developing cross-cultural skills and confidence to work with
professionals from different nationalities upon my return to Indian industry.
To sum it up, Australian education system is fairly convincing about providing focussed
and highly structured education to students while equipping them with the right
kind of skills & knowledge required as future professionals.

Para 6: Future Plans

In today’s work scenario, self-motivation and zeal to excel
in your field is required to be successful. As my goal is to come back to India
after the completion of my post graduate studies and practice here as a
construction manager, the cross-cultural exposure and practical learning
received in Australia is definitely going to boost my confidence and improve my
leadership quality in executing such projects. The Master of Construction
Management offered at Deakin University will substantiate me with dexterity and
professionalism in my native country. In the past few years many reforms have been
introduced in the Indian construction industry which aims at driving the
industry towards positive growth. Therefore I would like to come back as a
specialized professional ready to face the challenges of Indian sector. Hence,
after completing my course, I am confident that I will have bright future and I
will be able to achieve my goals and contribute to the development of my
country at the same time.

As far as my sponsorship of studies and living expenses are

also submitted my Bank Account Statement (Balance Certificate) from State Bank
of India which shows that I have enough funds to bear my first year living
expenses, i.e. $ ______ (AUS) in my account.

Dear Sir/Madam, I hope that you find all my documents in
