Beside that, the paper aims to compare the merits and demerits and other benefits of having your loved one in a nursing home and the alternatives incase the nursing home does not yield. A cautious thought is necessary to tell who should be taken to these homes and the ratification beside the objective. This is because the disabled or the olds are taken in these homes to seek better treatment, happiness and love.

NURSING HOMESNursing homes actually are institutions that offer living facilities and maternal services which provide an extensive range of special care, council and health services to the old disabled individuals or young but disabled individualsNURSING HOMES AND CULTURAL CHANGES.This can be defined as innovating new methods and efforts to promote and advocate for good living and working condition, care, love and conducive environments in the nursing homes. Culture changes involve addressing or changing values, behaviors, perception and practices in nursing homes from all perspectives. This involves employment of all field of discipline in this institution including legal profession to monitor the performance of the homes and the care given to the olds. Culture change is about decentralizing services and division of labors and care.OUTLINEThe outline has:IntroductionAimsSub-problemsDiscussionConclusionReferenceINTRODUCTIONInvestigations have shown that nursing homes provide special and better care to their esteemed customers.

In addition to that, family members and friends are allowed to visit their relatives and are involved in suggesting the way forward. Further more, the olds are given special attention that they cannot be provided by their relatives who are busy in their daily chore. In addition, nursing homes have family congress. This council is composed of specialists who provide advises to both the olds and the staffs. Some nursing homes are run by relatives and friends or residents. This makes a nursing home more like a residence and not like an institution. Another fact is that family council in nursing homes provides help to all residents, even persons who do not have concerned families. Relative’s involvements also protect populace who are physically incapable to voice and air their concerns and requirements for themselves and their relatives.

AIMSTo analyze some of the benefits, safety and effects of taking disabled family relatives to a nursing home. Beside that, to compare the merits and demerits and other benefits of having your loved one in a nursing home and the alternatives incase the nursing home does not yieldSub-problem 1:Does the management staff in nursing homes protect and improve the quality of life in the home and in the long-term care organization as a whole?Sub-problem 2:Does the degree on the nature of services and attention to the customers guarantee for their safety?Sub-problem 3:Does the cost incurred in placing the olds or the disabled in these nursing homes correspond with the benefits and the attention they get?DISCUSSION1) BENEFITSEffective nursing homes staffs benefit all involved parties. This includes relatives, residents and the homes in which they are involved. Family members and their relatives benefit in many ways. Some of these involve getting special attentions to their grand parents such as preventing falls with respect to the confused older patient admitted to the nursing homes.( Wendy Walker 2004 pg 114) However, it is not an easy thing to take a loved one in a nursing home.

This is because of the stigma and pessimism to the old that they are being discriminated or sidelined. Even after placement, relatives continue to contribute to similar concerns, troubles and questions as to whether their elders are getting better treatment and medication. In these nursing homes, there are experts such as family councils who participate in helping various families in decision making.

Relatives are guided on how to articulate their concerns and suggestions to work for a better change. Beside that, whereas it is superior having your loved one at your dwellings to a convinced level, it is not sensible to some extent. This is because; it is unsafe under some situation and existing circumstances. It is known that by providing care for an aged at home is relatively tasking and challenging.Demanding tasks such as continuous lifting, dressing, undressing, bathing and changing the positions of the disabled calls for an expert and a person who is experienced and who has a tender care. Taking care of the aged people at home requires a lot of profound lifting that may be detrimental to the care providers. Imagine a situation whereby you have to carry the aged from a wheel chair, from their resting places or bed etc.

This may consequence to a condition where nursing institutions must be established and adopted.2) WHY THE NURSING HOMES ARE CONSIDERED UNSAFENursing homes are considered unsafe due to ignorance and negligence, poor working conditions and environments, medical mishaps and deprivation of human rights, substandard services and theft. When planning to put your loved one in a nursing quarters is not an easy decision to make. The resolved issue can have an effect on the individual concerned and the whole family members. Therefore if this decision is not properly and effectively taken care of, the resolution can have a demoralizing effect on both the individual concerned, family relatives and friends. Family members and relatives must evaluate on the cost and benefits of having your loved one in a nursing home. This is because the main aim is to seek proper attention to the olds and to make them happy bearing in mind their senility age and misunderstanding of things.

When a relative is at home, special attention, tender care and love can be shown to him in a good and proper manner than the way he or she can get it at nursing homes. Having your loved one at home will help you watch him or her with all the required attentions. Of course this is possible if the family members are ready to invest in time, money and tender care to the loved one. These attentions and a sense of belonging is what one may lack in a nursing home.Due to the accumulation and the population of the olds in the nursing homes, a sense of negligence is involved especially when there are more elders to be attended, faulty services, medical mishaps and stealing.

It is very hard to mitigate or closely check, observe and monitor your loved one’s daily requirements such as eating habits, drinking and sleeping habits, medical care  and other attentions, she or he might need from the family relatives when he or she is at nursing homes. This is worse when the family members occasionally visit the nursing homes to see their beloved ones.Another factor is that when you have your loved one at home, there is no much thinking about his health condition because he is around you and it is easy to access him. Therefore there is a peace of mind. By taking the beloved one to a nursing home will help you to concentrate on personal matters. But this won’t help you to stop thinking about him. The reality that putting him or her in a nurture home would assist you do other stuff does not essentially take off your psyche on your loved one. This is because, while still at your residential place, the aspiration to see, hear or listen from him or her is still there.

As opposed to the nursing home, the health check need of your loved one is sufficiently taken care of when at home. This is true unlike in non reputable nursing home where you are not assured of the progress and the medical care of your relative. The senile sense or anticipation from the olds that they are being sidelined or discriminated must be discouraged. One way of doing that is by showing the tender love and fondness of having your loved one at home. Actually the chance of seeing or embracing each other at home daily is what makes the aged be pleased about life more than being dumped to the nursing homes.

Remember grandparents like caressing and disciplining their grandsons and daughters. The pleasure of seeing his or her grandchildren cannot be ignored. This vital necessity to the olds is denied when they are taken to the nursing homes.Again safety and discomfort is denied to both nurses and the olds where safety precautions are not followed. In nursing homes, those providing cares to the elders are deprived sleep and comfort in some ways. This is because they have to assist the elderly at knight.

Mostly, the elderly will need help at night to go to the lavatory. This can cause sleep scarcity to the nurses and this is treacherous to his or her health.Nurses can acquire contagious infections in their line of duty; again the elders are at risks of getting contaminated3) CULTURAL CHANGESAs stated earlier, cultural changes can be defined as innovating new methods and efforts to promote and advocate for good living and working condition, care, love and conducive environments in the nursing homes. Culture changes involve addressing or changing values, behaviors, perception and practices in nursing homes from all profession.

This involves employment of all field of discipline in this institution including legal profession to monitor the performance of the homes and the care given to the olds. Culture change is about decentralizing services and division of labors and care.[1]Cultural change is aimed at improving the quality and lives of the esteemed customers. Therefore this is demanding factor that need to be addressed from all professions through division of labor.

Some of the professions include setting proper legal frame work whereby the olds can be safeguarded by hiring lawyers to monitor and address legal problems to these nursing homes and to check whether there is abuse of human rights.Beside that some nursing homes have been involved in various scandals. For example stealing from customers or by providing substandard services compared to the money they demand. Cultural change is a noble ideal that involves all the managerial staffs, relatives, residents, olds or the disabled and their suggestions, government and other statuary bodies to monitor the nursing home culture.

This is for the sake of providing all inclusive environments that can support resident life, the olds safety, dignity, rights, and freedom of expression.4) WHO IS SUPPOSED TO ENTER A NURSING HOMEAccording to Bonnie Gash (Bonnie Gash, 1988, pg 115), the ailing elders are the first parties. This is because they must seek help from these nursing homes.

Family relatives are allowed to pay visits to the olds and disabled in order to enquire about their progress and to show that they still love their grandparents. Nursing staffs cannot be left be hide. This is because they are the caregivers. Religion bodies and councils must assist in advises and sole nourishment As stated earlier, all profession must be included. Therefore, government officials should be allowed to scrutinize the services offered and the legality of the institution. Hence lawyers should be involved. Due to stealing and deprivation of standard services in the nursing homes, lawyers specializing in nursing home problems are needed. In recent times, nursing homes have been investigated because of an increase in scams and poor service.

Nursing home lawyers can present a sense of defense and protection for customers who perceive they are being exploited.5) ALTERNATIVES TO NURSING HOME CAREDue to the previous discussion on the demerits of nursing homes such as Ignorance and negligence, Poor working conditions and environments ,Medical mishaps and deprivation of human rights ,Substandard services and Stealing are some of the factors that lead to relatives seeking alternatives to nursing homes.According to alternatives to nursing homes text document, some of the alternatives to nursing homes include adoption of community based groups or agencies and other nongovernmental organizations. Some companion bodies such as homemaker provide mobile services whereby they send individual experts who help the olds with daily household activities. They can offer services such as cooking for the olds, cleaning them, bathing them, changing clothes etc. Sometimes they can dispense medical services.

Many homemakers and associates are workforce of private agencies. Some are hired on contract basis. These agencies must be licensed by the state and their services and health monitored to guarantee safety to their esteemed customers.            Other alternatives to nursing homes include community based Options such as retirement benefits, programs and other apartment complexes. Community-based bodies provide services such as feeding wheel-chaired individuals, providing places or sites with meal where the olds can be taken to be fed on payment or on other conditions. These agencies also provide homemaker services and pay friendly visits to the olds. Additionally, there are some external services provided to the olds such as respite care.

This is a small stay at the disabled home to give the care provider a break from caring for someone who desires regular administration. Higher-ranking centers, hospitals, sacred institutions, private and charitable organizations offer program options and services that facilitate olds and disabled persons to stay physically and mentally energetic in the society.Other alternatives to nursing homes include registries of licensed nurse.

These registries assign an individual patient with a special nurse. The nurse offer nursing helps, home health assistants, personal company and organize services in the customers home. Each person wellbeing care worker is contacted with the registry.Other bodies providing similar services include Care Retirement organization, Home Health bodies and agencies, Adult Day Care Centers, Adult Family-Care Homes, Hospice, Skilled Nursing Units and Aged and Disabled Adult Waiver ProgramNursing Homes give out lasting homes for citizens who are too weak or unwell to live at their house. Though, many families require a nursing home point of care, they opt to stay in their home with the assistance of their relatives and friends, society services, and specialized care agencies. The Medicare agenda provide restricted admission to two distinctive programs for convinced beneficiaries who require a all-inclusive health check and communal service liberation system. These two distinctive programs are “PACE” which stand for Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly or the old and Social Managed Care Plan6) CONCLUSIONAfter analyzing some of the benefits, safety and effects of taking disabled family relatives to nursing home, I have decided to conclude that nursing homes are the best institution so far that can address the problems of the disabled. This is because in nursing homes there is proficiency of experts who are specialized in nursing process to the disabled.

Furthermore nursing homes can dispense services at lower prices than individual agencies because they operate at large scale. Excellent nursing homes compensate services for the cost incurred in nursing their patients.Nursing homes have been associated with various bleach of contracts, but the advantages of taking one relatives to a nursing homes outweigh the demerits.

Therefore relatives plus the ailing victim should discuss and decide the way forward. They should share a meeting and weigh the merits and demerits of placing the aged loved one in the nursing home. It is good to advocate for a good nursing home. If there is none, then one might opt having your loved one remain at home with relatives or look for alternatives to nursing homes.Reference:Culture change in nursing homes and aspects of long-term care: retrieved on 21st October 2007 available at www.PioneerNetwork.net ,  www.
