Modern and postmodern challenges to liberal education

Culture of professionalism describes as a social view of occupation for those who think well for themselves and try to gain more financial and social status. The culture of professionalism regards the professional as somehow superior to those who are nonprofessional. As professional it makes an individual to have the praise of dignity and being specialist in specific field, you have the mandate and power of control to create any considerable status on the specialized field.

American higher education is considered as a higher standard of education, it has respect for its leadership in research and scholarship, this by communities’ deals with university construction and this help university to receive foreigners to study in good accommodative environment and make United State to be recognized. German influences the American higher education in sense that German has freedom of ideas in academic research which American imported that concept. Germany also invites American students to study whereby Americans travel to Germany to obtain doctors degree and return to their country. the value of utility of an education is necessary to human being because with little education or without does not help at all, this little education does not have any impact in any human being life, thus is small skill of knowledge which may turn to be the edge.

Pragmatism is a movement that was founded by Charles Peirce (1839-1914). The movement was to determine or embrace a certain proposition by its truthfulness or by it’s not usefulness. It does not matter whether the proposition you are using is considered true or not what matters is the important thing is the work that it’s considered as factor for it. In 20th century pragmatism impacted most of the Americans life, especially education, whereby university of Chicago became the bastion of pragmatic thinking, in the same John Dewy carried into the public schools. Education was devoted to a pass a timeless truth. As a result the devoted brought it to the society for the children to be rear. The American education no longer informs younger minds but it simply bettered the society. Pragmatism on higher education was termed as ecological account of knowledge which the organism can get a grip on their environment. In 20th century pragmatism and higher education was considered as knowledge is what should be believed but not the practical and theoretical reason, nor any ontological difference between facts and values.

Liberal education in postmodern world are in greater demand as it has higher demand, skills that are essential not only for the job opportunities but also for the leading more fulfilling lives. Liberal education gives an individual six sets of capacities or competence: these are communication skills, recognition to fellow professionals, computational, concrete, cultural and civic. These six sets of liberal education are needed in this postmodern world so as to fit in the current society.

In an organization, culture professionalism rises from an individual and ranges to the category of societal influences, this influences organization to recognize and consider the cultural professional as a rule to the organization which governs organizational culture. Germany influences American higher education through funding the education to their students who are studying in American. German also influences American education by their liberal art tradition and the Germany research concept where American imported this idea of research concept from them. This new philosophy created in 20th century was emphasized by Americans and it became popular with American philosophers and even American public in early 20th century because of its close association with modern natural and social sciences. Liberal education brought great changes in the postmodern world because of the rapid competition of the professionals in various fields. The broad bases of liberal education as well for this multicultural world not only you with people from different cultures and countries but also culture and country of your own culture. liberal education in a postmodern world prepares one for heavy task of the competency and complex of issues that one faces so that you will be not be confused when representing and interpreting yourself in the future.
