Marijuana has not always been considered as a bad and non beneficial substance. Marijuana is used for things like major illnesses and conditions such as cancer, seizures and anxiety. Still today marijuana is not a disobedience to nature but has been the common root to crimes all over the globe, from mexican cartels to the simple buying and selling of marijuana on the streets. Marijuana has been legalized in several states and the percentage of crime rate has not gone up. Marijuana has never been scientifically proven to cause an overdose. However, the following drugs have caused overdoses, violence, near death, weight loss and crime: Alcohol, Cocaine, Pills, Meth, Heroin, and Crack. Although, the United States does not think well of marijuana but some countries do such as: Colombia, Costa Rica, Cambodia, and North Korea. Marijuana has always been around when it was first introduced it started out originally as herbal medicine and everyday uses. “The cannabis or hemp plant originally evolved in Central Asia before people introduced the plant into Africa, Europe, and eventually the Americas. Hemp fiber was used to make clothing, paper, sails and rope, and its seeds were used as food.”(History of Marijuana). Marijuana’s reputation has evolved over time its reputation was not always bad. Even Though marijuana can be a good and helpful thing it can also be a bad thing it can cause lung disorders, unusual behaviors, and temporary heart disorders. “Researchers, from St. Luke’s University Hospital Network, focused on patients with stress cardiomyopathy a sudden temporary weakening of the heart muscle that prevents it from pumping… Dr. Amitoj Singh, the lead investigator of the study, at least two cases of stress cardiomyopathy in medical literature have been related to marijuana use.”(Hailey Middlebrook). If marijuana is causing people to have these severe heart disorders then why should it be legal? Society and modern democracy all have different on marijuana use. Should Americas marijuana laws be weakened? Countries and states all over the world have legalized marijuana, while pot usage is controversial many people agree that the drug should be legal for medical uses. Even though the effects of pot are exaggerated the legalization of pot will help scientist better understand the impact on the body for medical uses. “Medical Marijuana has been found to treat or alleviate the following symptoms: Cramps, depression, elevated eye pressure, fatigue, headaches, high blood pressure, inflammation, insomnia, lack of appetite, muscle spasms, nausea, pain, seizures, spasticity, and stress.”( The Many Benefits of…). Treating these symptoms is a beneficial thing because people have a hard time finding medicine to treat these symptoms without other side effects that take away one pain and give you another. Marijuana benefits the economy in many ways it would create lots of jobs and bring in alot of revenue. “State and local governments would acquire new significant new sources of tax revenue from regulating marijuana sales.”( Marijuana Legalization and Regulation). This would benefit the government, society, and the people because they would be making more money so taxes may go down also there would be a significant amount of jobs created. The jobs that would created would be the employees that sell the marijuana, the farmers that grow the marijuana, the processors that process the marijuana, and the deliverers that deliver the marijuana to the marijuana franchisors. The tax revenue that is collected could mean a budget increase for schools all over the country so kids could have better resources to a better education. If marijuana laws were weakened it would decrease the amount of drugs that are illegally brought into the country by neighboring countries that grow marijuana. Mexican cartels are an example of ways that marijuana is illegally brought into the country. ” The co-director of the Drug Policy Research Center at the rand corp,Beau Kilmer, states that since 2008, Mexico provided as much as two – thirds of the drug consumed in the United States each year. This leaves Mexican cartel farmers painfully aware of the decline and the effect it will have on their employment.”( Christopher Brown ). If mexico provides ? of the united states marijuana each year and they start to go out of business then the united states will have less marijuana unless americans start to grow marijuana themselves. Mexico isn’t the only country to grow and sell marijuana there are many more countries that grow and sell marijuana. There are other countries such as Colombia, Costa Rica, Cambodia, and North Korea. “NK NEWS receives regular reports from visitors returning from North Korea, who tell us of marijuana plants growing freely along the roadsides, from the northern port town of Chongjin, right down to the streets of Pyongyang, where it is smoked freely and its sweet scent often catches your nostrils unannounced. Our sources are people we know who work inside North Korea and make regular trips in and out of the country.” (Ben Tool ). Who would have thought that a communist country such as would have marijuana ban from the country but they don’t north koreans do not consider it a drug it is totally legal. I wonder why they do not consider marijuana as a drug? Now I know that not all countries are against marijuana. Legalizing marijuana use would not only hurt those who smoke – it would also hurt children and people in society who do not intend to get hurt by secondhand smoke from those who do smoke. When people use marijuana for nonmedical purposes it serves to distract them from healthy functioning by either suppressing or intensifying certain functions of their body and mind to the destruction of the healthy harmony that should exist among the various functions. Some people believe that marijuana is a gateway drug to other hardcore drugs like cocaine, pills, heroine, and many others. Attorney General Jeff ” Sessions has assorted a connection between marijuana and violent crime.” (Fred Backus). If marijuana is causing violent break outs then the laws against marijuana should not be weakened because then there would most likely be more breakouts of violent crimes. Marijuana leads to criminal activities such as gang violence, drug trafficking, and illegal drug activities. It causes many men and women to destroy their futures and families because of prison and jail or running for their lives because they are choosing not to face up to what they have done so they have to be away from their families even longer than intended. People are also suffering because they were arrested before marijuana was legal in their state or country. In some countries that marijuana is now legal people who were arrested before it was legal are in jail away from their families also.” A recent NorthWestern University study found that marijuana users have abnormal brain structure and poor memory and that chronic marijuana abuse may lead to brain changes resembling to schizophrenia.”( John Hawkins ). Marijuana can cause symptoms in your head that can cause you to become gravely ill. Schizophrenia is not the only disease or condition that marijuana can create in your body. Marijuana may also cause poor brain function, poor memory, hallucinations, delusions, and psychosis when taken in high doses. Since marijuana may possibly cause poor memory it could also make human kidnapping such as sexual trafficking and drug trafficking through people more frequent and easier. People that abuse marijuana so much that they would not be able to recognize or remember what happened to them, they would be considered the perfect victim to someone looking to increase business and profit. Studies have shown that marijuana increases your sexual drive when smoked in large amounts. Experiments in rats found that the active compounds cause different fluctuations in sex drive. Most recent studies show that cannabis heighten sexual arousal in women which make them more of a target to sex traffickers.
